Note: Since publishing Excellent Online Teaching, I’ve changed my mind on grading individual discussions. I’ve come to believe that assessing discussions stifles the learning conversation. However, many schools require grading online discourse. In this case, rubrics both help create clear criteria for students and speed up the grading process.
